Diester Industrie, France

Diester Industry is owned by Sofiproteol, a French company that focuses on human nutrition, animal feed, renewable chemistry, and renewable energy. The company was founded in 1983 as a financial establishment for another agribusiness called Prolea. The original mission of the company was to develop French vegetable oil and protein industries.

Diester Indsutry was created in 1992 and is focused on the development of oilseed crops for renewable energy and chemistry. It currently has an installed capacity of 3 million metric tonnes of biodiesel. The organization is also a leader in the production of vegetable glycerin, which is a byproduct of the production of biodiesel. Glycerin capacity exceeds 350,000 metric tonnes, which makes Diester one of the largest glycerin producers in the world.

Diester Industrie International

DII was created in 2005 to help develop biodiesel using oilseed on a larger scale. Sixty percent of the company is held by Diester Industrie and 40% is held by the Bunge Group, a petroleum supplier. The company holds subsidiaries in Germany, Belgium, Austria, and Italy. Combined, these subsidiaries have a capacity of 853,000 metric tons of biodiesel and 79,000 metric tons of vegetable glycerin.
